WHO MAKES US UNIQUE?
Students in the CORE program:
- Tackle challenges during outdoor adventure experiences that encourage them to step outside of their comfort zone;
- Work and collaborate on self-directed projects to develop positive team dynamics;
- Build positive relationships with other student leaders involved with ORGT;
- Learn through encounters with a variety of leadership styles;
- Develop competencies to lead and inspire others.
THE PROGRAM
The CORE program involves weekly meetings during the Fall and Spring semesters and includes weekend adventure trips, about 1 per month. Trips are structured to promote teamwork and problem-solving. Activities include whitewater rafting, biking, caving, kayaking, cascading, backpacking, Mindfulness Outdoors, and rock climbing.
As a final challenge, ORGT provides resources for CORE participants to propose, plan and implement a multi-day regional expedition under the guidance of experienced ORGT leaders.

CORE 13.0 LEADERS
CORE is led by a team of Georgia Tech students with deep ORGT roots. Commonly known as “COREdinators” within the ORGT community, this team is appointed by a committee of ORGT leaders and full-time staff. They work with the CORE class for the entire academic year.
CORE 13.0 begins meeting in late August / early September of 2024.
We are excited to announce the CORE 13.0 leadership team, who actively assume their roles early in July 2024. Welcome Luke Barnes, Beau Milam, and Randi Sullivan.
Luke Barnes
Hey everyone! My name is Luke Barnes. I am a 4th year Mechanical Engineering student from Johnson City, TN. My ORGT journey started as a member of CORE 10.0 during my freshman year at Tech.
I have loved every minute of my time with ORGT, especially the immersive experiences of Tech Treks, CORE, and an 8-day backcountry canoeing expedition in British Columbia after my freshman year! I enjoy rock climbing, swimming, trail running, backpacking, and just about every other form of outdoor adventure I’ve tried! When I’m not in the woods, you’ll likely find me building something or volunteering in the Invention Studio as a Prototyping Instructor! I’m super excited to get to know everyone in the CORE 13.0 program!
Randi Sullivan
Hey there! I’m Randi Sullivan, a fourth-year Aerospace Engineering student from Boston, MA. Since my freshman year, I’ve been part of Outdoor Recreation Georgia Tech (ORGT) community, starting with CORE 10.0. Through ORGT, I have learned how to whitewater kayak, which led me to become a commercial raft guide the past 3 summers. When I’m not on the river, you’ll find me hiking, backpacking, skiing, or just chilling in a hammock. In August 2024, I’m going on a sea kayaking expedition in Norway with ORGT. Being part of ORGT has not only led me to incredible outdoor experiences but also to lifelong friendships and personal growth. I am thrilled for my next ORGT adventure, leading CORE 13.0.
Beau Milam
Howdy, I’m Beau Milam! I’m a 5th year student studying Aerospace Engineering, and I’ve spent a substantial chunk of the past several years adventuring with ORGT. I am an ORGT whitewater kayaking/raft guide and like to dabble in rock-climbing and mountain biking. ORGT has taken me on backcountry expeditions to Oregon, British Columbia, and Alaska, where I’ve made my closest college pals and some unforgettable memories. Beyond just fun and friends, my experience with ORGT has provided me with mentors and taught me communication and leadership skills that have made a significant impact on my academic, career, and personal life. Although I’ve had many great experiences and made incredible memories with ORGT already, I’m most excited looking ahead to the privilege of leading what I believe is Outdoor Rec’s coolest program: CORE 13!
