This semester, Campus Recreation Complex (CRC) members can enjoy drop-in GIT FIT classes in time slots tailored to improve the overall experience of taking a group fitness class at the world class facility. Classes will begin 15 minutes later than the usual time slots and run 45 minutes long. This change was made in effort to concentrate higher quality instruction into each class and to more efficiently manage time between classes.

Previous classes overlapped leaving little to no time for transition. The new 15-minute time window allows instructors to prepare equipment for class in advance while providing time for participants to check in and ask questions before the class begins. Additionally, it will enable participants the opportunity to wind down after class and speak with the instructor one on one if desired.

GIT FIT Assistant Director Elisha Quillen-Smith explained that instructors can now spend more time with class participants if necessary.

“It gives the instructors more flexibility between classes to talk to participants if the need arises,” she said.

Before the change, there were some classes that lasted an hour and others that lasted 45 minutes. Quillen-Smith emphasized that through implementing a universal schedule the CRC is able to continue to offer an outstanding number of classes to its members.

“If we offered 50 to 55 minute classes then we would have likely had to eliminate a few of the classes from the schedule. By streamlining all classes down to 45-minute intervals we are able to offer a better variety of classes and class times,” she said.

Instructors, regular GIT FIT class attendees, and newcomers will all benefit from the new and improved schedule. Spring GIT FIT instructional programs begin on Tuesday, January 17, and the first week of instruction is free to all CRC members.
